Scripts and scaffolds in problem - based computer supported collaborative learning environments : Fostering participation and transfer

چکیده
This study investigates collaborative learning of small groups via text-based computer-mediated communication. We analyzed how two approaches to pre-structure communication influence participation, individual knowledge transfer, the convergence of participation and the convergence of knowledge among learning partners. We varied the factor "scripted cooperation" and the factor "scaffolding" in a 2x2design. 105 university students of Pedagogy participated. Results show that scripted cooperation was most and scaffolding least beneficial to individual transfer, knowledge convergence and participation in comparison to open discourse.

Fostering computer supported collaborative learning with cooperation scripts and scaffolds
The study investigates collaborative learning of small groups via text-based computer-mediated communication. We analyzed how two approaches to pre-structure communication influence participation, individual knowledge transfer, the convergence of participation and the convergence of knowledge among peers. We varied the factor scripted cooperation and the factor scaffolding in a 2x2-design. 105 ...
متن کاملFacilitating learning in multidisciplinary groups with transactive CSCL scripts
Knowledge sharing and transfer are essential for learning in groups, especially when group members have different disciplinary expertise and collaborate online. ComputerSupported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) environments have been designed to facilitate transactive knowledge sharing and transfer in collaborative problem-solving settings. This study investigates how knowledge sharing and transf...
متن کاملTitle: Monitoring students’ collaboration in computer-mediated collaborative problem-solving: Applied feedback approaches
The research describes a methodology for applying designand management-based scaffolding techniques aimed to enhance cooperative behaviour. Based on assumptions of how successful online learning groups act together we developed feedback-based mechanisms that aimed at contributing to group functions of well-being, member support, and productive learning outcomes. The collaborative online learnin...

Collaborative learning in computer-supported learning environments typically means that learners work on tasks together, discussing their individual perspectives via text-based media or videoconferencing, and consequently acquire knowledge. Collaborative learning, however, is often sub-optimal with respect to how learners work on the concepts that are supposed to be learned and how learners int...
